2023 GNSI-NE 4th annual themed exhibit
On The Wing
Come and join GNSI-New England as we celebrate a lengthy 2023 exhibit. Our theme for our 4th annual exhibit, On The Wing, is focusing on the various aspects of migration for birds and insects mixed with a little bit of pollination and pollinators. We chose this focus because the host gallery at Kettle Pond Visitors Center is part of the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge, which is part of the Atlantic Flyway that concentrates migrants along the northeastern seaboard.
Migrating birds and insects rely heavily on established flyways which provide vital habitats for shelter, refueling, and resting. Without these protected areas, migrating birds and insects would struggle to recover from their arduous journeys. The state of Rhode Island has protected 858 acres of diverse habitat – ranging from upland to wetlands, grasslands to shrublands to wooded swamps, and freshwater ponds and coastal habitats. At least 250 species of birds have been recorded within the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge.
Our Mission – Art, Education, and Science
Our annual themed exhibit is instrumental in bringing our mission of combining art, education, and science out into the public. Increasing public awareness completes the circle, by using our art to teach our viewers something that applies right here in their daily lives. We invite you to explore the artwork in our exhibit and learn about the migrants who rely on protected areas like Ninigret Wildlife Refuge to survive.
Our exhibit will be on public display at the Kettle Pond Visitors Center. The gallery space is open to the public Monday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Plan to spend some time both inside the visitors center and outside exploring the native gardens and nature paths.
